STELLER SEA LION RESEARCH
biology and ecology
Information about the ecology, biology, physiology, behavior and population dynamics of sea lions is needed to resolve why sea lions have declined. Consortium Scientists have conducted a number of studies to fill in the missing pieces needed to fully understand:
- General and Diving Physiology―How do sea lions catch their prey and survive in the ocean?
- Population Dynamics―How has the Steller sea lion population changed in time and space?
- Ecology―How do sea lions and other marine mammals fit into the ocean’s food web?
- Biology―What are normal behaviors, diets, survival rates and reproductive rates of sea lions and do they differ between increasing and decreasing populations?
