NOAA is proposing to delist the eastern Steller sea lion population

The eastern population of Steller sea lions is listed as a threatened species under the US Endangered Species Act. This population ranges from California to Southeast Alaska.

NOAA biologists recently reviewed the status of this population and concluded that the species has recovered sufficiently to be delisted and removed from the Endangered Species List. NOAA is now seeking public comment on their proposal to delist. The public comment period closes June 18, 2012, and a final decision to delist will be made within one year.
