Nutritional physiology and bioenergetics
of captive Steller sea lions
The purpose of my study is to examine seasonal growth and energetic requirements of Steller sea lions, Eumetopias jubatus from captive records. I would like to quantify growth and energetic intake and determine if there are seasonal patterns in growth and feeding rates, and examine how these patterns may relate to life history stages such as weaning and reproduction, and to environmental conditions such as temperature and photoperiod. Quantifying growth and energetic requirements and understanding their fluctuations will be extremely useful in the continuing study and management of the endangered western population of Steller sea lions.
