BIOGRAPHY:

Dom Tollit is a Research Associate at the University of British Columbia whose research has concentrated on pinniped-prey interactions through multi-faceted captive and field based studies of pinniped diet and foraging ecology. His current research on Steller sea lions includes assessing biases in estimating diet composition from scats, validating new DNA-based quantification methods, using blubber fatty acid and stable isotope signatures to describe diet, as well as investigating prey selection and the level of competition between Steller sea lions and fisheries in the North Pacific.

He completed his Ph.D on the foraging ecology of Harbour seals at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, and completed this research when based at the Lighthouse Field Station in 1996. Prior to joining the UBC Marine Mammal Research Unit in 2000, Dom led field research projects on Macquarie Island (southern elephant seal foraging ecology), in Borneo (effects of logging on freshwater fish communities) and in Fiji (coral reef surveys).
